Luis Amaya is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at St. Thomas' Universiy Hospital, London. He is in charge of all the paediatric ophthalmic patients who are admitted to the Evelina Children's Hospital, a tertiary referral centre in London. He was trained in Columbia and has a professorship from Rosario University in Bogota.
He underwent his subspecialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. He worked for 10 years in South America at Charity University Children’s Hospital as head of the department.
He continues his teaching and training at St. Thomas' Hospital with regular commitments to medical students and trainee ophthalmologists. Professor Amaya is also an executive examination board member for the International Council of Ophthalmology. He is also involved in charitable work in Tanzania and has been invited to China with the Lifeline Express lecturing programme.
